Start-Up Recruitment:  Making Your First Hire

This session will provide practical advice to start-up entrepreneurs who are ready to expand their teams beyond the founders.  Topics will include how to determine which positions to start with, where to source candidates, when to engage recruiters or HR, how to categorize new hires, and how to compensate them.  It aims to provide the entrepreneur with the framework necessary to develop an initial recruitment strategy and successfully execute against it.

Who Should Attend:  This course is suitable for business owners, entrepreneurs and IP holders who are planning to build or expand their development or commercialization teams.

About the Instructors:  This session will be presented by  the partners of GO Recruitment:  Raymond To, BSc (Biochemistry), MBA, CMA; Anna Shojania, BA, MBA, CPC; and Luciano Anjos, BSc (Physics), Dipl BA.  They are the three principals of GO Recruitment, a local search and consulting firm that specializes in recruitment and HR initiatives for technology and knowledge sector organizations.  All three are UBC alumni  and all continue to provide their expertise as sessional instructors, advisory board members, and lecturers on campus.  In addition, GO recently joined the UILO’s entrepreneurship@UBC as a mentorship partner.

Florence is a Sauder Alumna who has built 2 businesses, including the world’s first peer-to-peer online currency exchange, PeerFX, and a non-profit society focused on supporting the local fashion industry, titled Vancouver Fashion Showcase. She is currently building an online fashion retail platform, launching a men’s accessories line and planning Fashion’s Night Out, a global fashion initiative, for Vancouver.
